The Our Father is the perfect prayer because it was given to us by Jesus Christ, God himself when he taught his disciples how to pray. This prayer is related to the virtue of hope in that we trust that God will provide the means for our salvation.
The Hail Mary is likewise divine in origin in that it repeats the heavenly greeting delivered by the Archangel Gabriel to Mary when he asked that she accept her part in God's plan for our Redemption by becoming the mother of God. The honor of being the Mother of God and free from Original Sin and all sin places Mary above all of God's creation - all the angels and men.
It is proper that we ask special graces of her son through her, and pray for her intercession with God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, now and at the hour of our death.
