“O Lord, do come along in our company” (Ex 34:9).
Today we are celebrating the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. Our God, in whom we believe, is one God in three persons. What a wondrous mystery!
The Catechism teaches us the following: “God has revealed his innermost secret: God himself is an eternal exchange of love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and he has destined us to share in that exchange” (CCC 221).
God is light and love.
Today’s first reading tells us about the encounter between God and Moses on Mount Sinai. Moses receives the grace of contemplating God’s mystery, of seeing God face to face.
“Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship. Then he said, "If I find favor with you, O Lord, do come along in our company. This is indeed a stiff-necked people; yet pardon our wickedness and sins, and receive us as your own” (Ex 34:9–10).
Moses prostrates himself before God in adoration. Then he asks God to forgive the people. Adoration leads to reparation. Finally, Moses entrusts the people to God. Adoration leads to offering.
There is a prayer that helps me enter into the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. It was taught to the three shepherd children of Fatima by an angel.
“Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference by which He is offended. And, through the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of sinners.”
When we are in God’s presence, we offer all things to him. We acknowledge that all things come from his hands. We really do not know how we should make our offering but just need to let Christ’s offering live in us.
We offer reparation. Christ repairs the sins of the world, together with us. Only Christ has the power to repair the sins of the past and the sins of the present. Only Christ has the ability to heal our personal wounds and the wounds of the society. Only Christ conquers all the fears that lead to violence. In Christ we become brothers and sisters and the Spirit cries out in us: Abba, Father.
When we turn to God with our whole hearts, we change ourselves and help change the world. Evil and sin exist in the world because God is not in our hearts. Ultimately, we can only find reconciliation, peace and justice in God.
Today, in the presence of the Most Holy Trinity, we pray: “O Lord, do come along in our company” (Ex 34:9). Be with us and walk with us.
May the Immaculate Conception, patroness of the United States, obtain for us the graces we need the most at this moment of history. May she help us to glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
